Transitional Farmhouse- Edina MN Kitchen Remodel

The before and after space of this Edina MN kitchen remodel could not be more different. We started with the original kitchen of the 80’s when the home was built that featured laminate cabinets and countertops and a style that was nowhere close to my client’s farmhouse style.

We started by removing the wall between the kitchen and unused formal dining space to create an open flow between the kitchen and dining area. This allowed us to reconfigure the space into one that would better function for everyday family functions and gatherings and frequent entertaining.

The new plan features a large center island that is perfect for food prep, gathering, and extra seating. Opening up the space between the kitchen and dining room gave us more wall space to incorporate a larger cooktop and double wall ovens.

The last change we made was to convert a picture window into a large sliding patio door to connect the backyard to the newly transformed kitchen. Access was previously through an adjacent mud/laundry room.

The space was in no way a reflection of my client’s style and the furnishings and decor that she had chosen for the rest of her home. The space was also incredibly dark and dated. Everything about it had to go.

The style goal was to make the new kitchen feel light, bright, modern, timeless, but incorporate rustic touches. We did that with classic shaker style cabinetry in a classic white finish accented by rustic woods and iron fixtures and hardware. To keep it feeling modern and clean, we went with a gorgeous honed gray quartz and classic white tile backsplash.

Now the kitchen fits my clients’ style and functional needs.
