How Will You Know When It’s Time to Remodel?

When it becomes time to remodel your kitchen, bathroom, or part of your home, or maybe all of it, the signs will start showing up long before you finally make the decision to make a change. Little frustrations with your space will start to amount to larger frustrations until you finally decide you’ve had enough.

I’ve compiled a list of common complaints I hear when it’s time to start planning for a remodel. Maybe some of these will resonate with you!

When it’s time to remodel your bathroom:

  • The shower is too small

    • Your shower feels too small and there is absolutely no storage.

  • The shower door and tile in the bathroom is starting to look pretty crusty. You know what I’m talking about- mineral stains, water stains, chipped grout, cracked tiles, grime that you just can’t seem to get clean anymore

  • You have a giant tub that is taking up space and never gets used

    • The tub and tub deck is taking up your whole bathroom.

    • Your old whirlpool tub is hard to clean and maintain

  • There isn’t enough storage

    • You have a giant tub, small shower, and tiny vanities

    • There is nowhere to store your necessities, so your countertops are looking cluttered.

    • You have a linen cabinet that isn’t very useful and everything seems to get lost.

  • Your space is outdated

    • You’ve painted and changed out the decor several times, but you still aren’t happy with the space.

    • You are really sick of golden oak and tan tile

  • Everything is too short

    • Your vanity cabinets are too short. You are hunching over trying to brush your teeth

    • Your shower head is mounted too low. You are hunching and bending trying to rinse the shampoo out of your hair

    • Your toilet is too low to the ground. My knees hurt just thinking about it!

When it’s time to remodel your kitchen:

  • Not enough storage

    • Your current cabinetry just doesn’t serve you no matter how many times you have rearranged the cabinets, bought storage inserts, and decluttered.

  • Your cabinets are old

    • You’ve started to notice that your drawers don’t operate smoothly

    • Your doors and drawers are looking crooked or wonky

    • You don’t love the style of your cabinets

    • You are sick of golden oak

  • You have appliances littering your countertop space

    • You have a coffee maker, bread maker, air fryer, microwave, pizza maker, instapot, toaster oven, stand mixer, crockpots and nowhere to put them.

  • Your kitchen is outdated or just not your style

    • You’ve done what you could with what you were working with, but it just isn’t serving you anymore and it’s time for a change.

If your home is over 20 years old, it was designed for a different time and a different way of using the spaces that no longer serves that way that you live in your home today. If you find yourself regularly getting frustrated by some of these things in your own space, then it might be time to start thinking about a remodel.
