Outdated to Updated - Coon Rapids MN Remodel

When I first entered the Kennedy Residence, the home had incredible structure. The space had gorgeous vaulted ceilings, but visually, the kitchen felt like it was from a different decade. It was dominated by honey oak cabinetry, basic white laminate countertops, and dated, shiny brass fixtures that just didn’t do the clients' room justice.

Functionally, the space just wasn't working for them. A wrap-around island blocked traffic, and a built-in desk area became an accidental drop-off zone.

A notable wall holding the cabinetry cut the kitchen off from the entryway and dining room. They needed an open-concept transformation that would let the kitchen finally serve their family's lifestyle.

The Transformation

To give the Kennedys the open-concept dream they wanted, we started by tearing down the dividing walls to create an uninterrupted flow from the front door all the way through the main living areas (take a look at the incredible new sightlines in the image below!).

We traded the '90s for more of a modern aesthetic. We chose soft whites, creams, and nature-inspired greens and blues. A gorgeous green herringbone tile backsplash provides a soft pop of color against the crisp white upper cabinets, while the base cabinets are topped with quartz, featuring a nice, warm brown that complements the floor.

The awkward island was replaced with a central island that seats five comfortably—perfect for those busy mornings or hosting friends!

And the desk area? We reimagined it into a sleek, purposeful side bar (where the railing was) with peacock blue drawers for storage and a gorgeous touch of contrast.
Finished with warm luxury vinyl plank flooring and modern matte black lighting, this home finally feels open, bright, and perfectly tailored to their family.

Ready to transform your own space? Whether your kitchen is stuck in a past decade or simply isn't serving your family's daily rhythm, we’d love to help you bring your vision to life.
