DON’T DIY YOUR DESIGN

Imagine you are going to take on a kitchen or bathroom remodeling project. Where would you start? You might go to some showrooms to start looking at different products. You might go to Home Shows or visit the Parade of Homes to get ideas. Maybe you start browsing the internet and Pinterest. Now you have an idea of what you want, and you know what you like, so you start shopping around. You go to a cabinet showroom, a tile showroom, a flooring store, and a plumbing store. In each store, you are presented with literally hundreds, if not thousands of options. Each sales rep you encounter is either giving you a different opinion of what you should do in your space, or they are more worried about their commission than they are your project. You aren’t getting individualized attention. Now you are starting to get confused, overwhelmed, and unsure. You’re not confident that you can pull something together that looks like the Pinterest images you’ve saved. You’re getting frustrated because you and the other decision makers in your home aren’t agreeing on the same things. You like a certain tile, and they don’t. They want one sink, you want another. You’re feeling stressed because you’ve already spent a whole lot of time trying to design your kitchen or bathroom on your own but have somehow gotten nowhere.

Please allow me to take the stress out of your project by working with you to create your perfect design plan. I will help you through all of the details like cabinet design, tile design, and lighting. I will do the legwork for you to select materials for your space that are a perfect reflection of your style. Sometimes I think of it like hiring a personal shopper for your home. I will bring thoughtfully selected material samples and options to your home, and we will work together to build your design plan.

When we’re finished, you will have a design plan that you can confidently create on your own or hand to your contractor. If you’d like, I can also help you through that process to make sure that your design plan is executed perfectly.

The Process

We start with a few layout concepts for your space. Sometimes we have so many ideas floating around in our head of different options for the remodel. It can be hard to narrow down a solution because you are having a hard time visualizing all of the possibilities. These concept drawings are typically very basic in order to visualize different layout options. In the example below, we are considering 3 different layouts with different peninsula and appliance arrangements.

Next, we decide on a layout that will work best for how you and your family would like to use the space, and we start to refine the layout into a detailed kitchen design. Your needs are carefully considered so that I can create a functional cabinet design. We work through revisions and tweaks so at the end of this phase, you will have a space thoughtfully designed for how you live. In addition to 3D views of your new space, I include a detailed floorplan and elevations. If you feel confident in pulling your design together from here, you can simply take your new design to retailers or your contractor for pricing and start shopping for your finishes and materials. If you need help with that, we move on to the next phase which is materials and selections.

Once the layout is complete, the fun really begins, and we bring your personality and style into the space! Similar to deciding on a layout, we explore 1 or 2 scheme options before deciding which one to refine, and I get to work on every detail of your design. I bring the design presentation and all material samples to you to view in your home. We work through a few refinements and revisions if needed until we’ve created a space that you love.

If you are working with a contractor or doing some of the work on your own, and are comfortable executing your design, I leave you with a comprehensive design packet with all of the information you need to make ordering easy. If you need help with that, we move on the the next phase, which is implementing your beautiful new design.

When we’ve completed the design, it’s time to bring it to life! I’ll coordinate with your contractor, or one I recommend in order to procure estimates for the scope of work. Once that’s approved, we can begin ordering materials and scheduling work. In this phase, I take care of all of that so that you don’t have to. When it comes time to install, I oversee the execution and give you weekly updates on how your project is progressing.
